Most financial advice is about helping you make more. Ours starts with what you’ve already built, and what could quietly take it apart.
There are dozens of quiet exposures in a successful tech or biotech professional’s financial life. Most never get surfaced, because most advisors don’t look for them. Our job is to find them first.
Protect. Subtract. Align. Build. In that order, and the order is the point.
Protect
We start by looking for the vulnerabilities other advisors miss. None of these are hypothetical. They’re the patterns we see over and over: an account whose titling quietly overrides your will, directing money where you never meant it to go. An ISO exercise that triggers an AMT bill even after you’ve sold nothing. A 10b5-1 plan put in place too late to sell during the one window that matters. An umbrella policy too thin for the kind of lawsuit a visible, successful career invites. A company-stock position that grew into most of your net worth while you weren’t watching. A trust set up years ago and never funded. An old 401(k) still naming an ex-spouse.
Subtract
Most people who come to us are overweight in complexity. Too many accounts, too many products, too many legacy positions inherited from too many advisors over too many years. Before we add anything new, we remove what doesn’t belong. The result feels lighter before we’ve recommended a single new dollar.
Align
Everything that remains has to point in the same direction. Your investments match your goals and timeline. Your tax strategy fits your income pattern and the equity events ahead of you. Your estate documents reflect the life you have today, not the one you had five years ago. Cash, debt, insurance, and beneficiaries, all coordinated.
Build
Only now do we start adding. New accounts where they serve a purpose. Specific decisions for specific money. A plan for the event on your horizon. A system that grows with you instead of one you have to manage.
The Two Numbers
The first number is what it costs to run your life for a year. Not the round figure in your head, the real one, with the negotiables and the non-negotiables separated, so you can see which parts of your life are fixed and which are choices.
The second is the invested amount that covers that cost without your paycheck. Most people have never seen either number written down. They have a salary, a stack of accounts, and a feeling. The two numbers replace the feeling with something you can look at.
Every BFA Wealth Plan puts both numbers on one page.
A written plan
Not a software export with your name on the cover. A real document, built for your situation, that belongs to you.
Real substance
Not platitudes about diversification. Actual analysis of your equity, taxes, and investments, organized so you can see what to do, when, and what happens if you don’t.
One head, full picture
